Continuing The LegacyA Letter From The Principal

Dear Friends of St. Thomas More Catholic School,

St. Thomas More Catholic School is committed to living our mission by continuing the 50-year "legacy of excellence in religious and academic education". This commitment begins by recruiting and retaining an outstanding faculty in support of a rigorous core curriculum complemented by a variety of enrichment and elective classes. Our team works hard each year to provide a sequential and cohesive curriculum based on national standards, state frameworks, and researched best teaching and learning practices. All of our students are challenged with hands-on-learning and problem solving activities, technology integration and lab experiences.

Our team works hard each year to provide a sequential and cohesive curriculum based on national standards, state frameworks, and researched best teaching and learning practices.

I am so proud of our students, in many ways, and am happy to report that a continued education at STM enhances their academic performance. Their standardized test scores are well above the national and diocesan averages and are increasing each year to indicate growth over time. For example, last year's graduating Eighth Graders scored at the 85th percentile in language and 78th percentile in math, and our Sixth Graders scored at the 82nd percentile in science. Even our younger children are excelling with Third and Fourth Grade language scores at the 82nd and 85th percentiles, respectively, and Fourth Grade science scores at the 80th percentile.

However, while we meticulously monitor our rigorous curriculum and our students continue their high-level achievement, portions of our buildings, technology and resources remain unchanged since the school opened its doors in the 1960s. Today, we need your help. Now is the time to invest in new bricks and mortar, innovative technology and upgrade our amenities to provide a state-of-the-art educational facility that will further aid our children, enrich their learning experience and provide them the foundation for an academic advantage that will last a lifetime.

Our program is designed to educate the whole child -- mentally, physically, and spiritually -- so our children become the best that they can be. Today, we need your support to create an atmosphere that assists in facilitating this mission. Please give to the St. Thomas More School Excellence Campaign so that we can continue our legacy as one of our city's exemplary educational experiences. Thank you for your support.

Sincerely Yours in Christ,
Judy Hickman Armstrong, Ph.D.
