Continuing The LegacyCase Statement
Over the past 50 years, St. Thomas More Catholic School (STM) has been a beacon of Catholic education in Baton Rouge. Our alumni are today’s religious, education, medical, legal, business, industry, family and community leaders throughout our region and beyond. Our students are well prepared for high school and college and many earn top scholastic honors. Each day, thousands of men and women draw from the spiritual, personal and academic foundation established through their experience at St. Thomas More Catholic School.
While STM students continue to perform at the very highest academic levels, the STM campus has not kept pace. Many STM buildings are showing the wear of age, and functionally the school is not conducive to an evolving, modern curriculum. Left unaddressed, STM staff and students will be working from a significant disadvantage.
STM strives to give the students the greatest curriculum, facilities, and environment for them to succeed. Your support will help us provide the very best for our students.
Charged with the responsibility for continuation of this precious resource, the St. Thomas More Catholic School Board has developed and is executing a comprehensive plan for the future. The STM ongoing plan calls for further curriculum development and facility modernization to meet the education challenges of the 21st Century. The Board has begun a campaign that will fund improvements identified in the plan.
Those participating in the campaign will ensure that STM takes the necessary steps to fulfill the school’s mission of “providing students excellence in religious and academic education in a nurturing environment that fosters self discipline.”
After a decade of careful planning and good stewardship by the School Board and its Finance Committee, STM is on its way toward reaching the campaign goal of approximately $3.9 million. Now the Board turns to the thousands of former, current and future members of the STM school community to help in carrying forward our legacy through The St. Thomas More Catholic School Excellence Campaign.
St. Thomas More Catholic School continues a legacy of excellence in academic education with an exemplary faculty and a rigorous and relevant curriculum. Our core curriculum focus in grades kindergarten through eighth is on Catholicism, reading, math, English, science and social studies. Enrichment and elective classes are provided in health and physical education, French, Spanish, computer applications, art, vocal music and band.
Teachers implement a cohesive and sequential curriculum for all subjects that incorporate active, engaged learning that challenge our students with hands-on-learning activities, technology integration and lab explorations. This has enabled student academic performances to soar above the national and diocesan averages and consistently increase each year to indicate growth over time.
The Campaign for Excellence will provide the facilities to complement this curriculum with a new science lab, music/band room, and renovated classrooms and student resource rooms. A new multi-media/library center with additional individual computers and a computer lab will allow teachers the opportunity to bring whole classes to the library for reading and specialized projects. STM strives to give the students the greatest curriculum, facilities, and environment for them to succeed. Your support of the Excellence Campaign will help us provide the very best for our students.
